Native American History in Southeast Wisconsin–Thursday, September 19th, 7 PM, Presented by Ron Neumister

The Delavan Historical Society’s Exhibit and Resource Center will be presenting Ron Neumister, guest speaker on Native American History in Southeast Wisconsin, (specifically Walworth County) on Thursday, September 19th, at 7 p, m. Topics will include public land surveys, research, collecting, camp sites and burial mounds.  All are invited to attend, especially those interested in prehistory to the society’s exhibit and resource center at 663 Ann Street, Delavan.  The program is free, refreshments will be served.

Pioneer Wisconsin Cabinetmaker; Ithiel Tilden In 1855, Ithiel Tilden loaded a wagon with his family, personal possessions, three wide mahogany boards and a huge piece of rosewood leaving Utica, New York heading for the village of Delavan in Wisconsin.            A cabinetmaker by trade, Tilden was considered a woodworking artist and his furniture was in high demand. Railroads in Delavan Presented by Richard Burnes, July 19th, 7pm

On this Thursday evening, July 19 at 7 p.m. Richard Burnes, a railroad historian, will present a program, “Railroads in Delavan.”  A railroad enthusiast since he was a young child, Burnes’ first memory of trains is crossing the train tracks in Chicago at two years old.  A steam locomotive stopped and Burnes has been fascinated with trains ever since. His uncle was the assistant superintendent of railroad sleeping and dining cars; that gave him a contact with railroad travel and service.  […]

Historical Society Osborn Distributing has generously offered to accept aluminum cans to benefit the Temperance House! Just take your cans to Osborn Distributing on Mound Road, and when dropping them off – tell them that they are for the Israel Stowell Temperance House (ISTH)! The can donation $$ will go towards the restoration of the ISTH! They are open Monday – Friday 1pm-4pm and Saturdays 8am – Noon. Please save your cans for us! PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!..
