Delavan History (the Delavan Historical Society) is a volunteer-run nonprofit in Delavan, Wisconsin. This page explains what happens to your information when you use delavanhistory.org.
The short version: we collect very little. This website runs no advertising networks, no analytics services, and no social media tracking pixels. We do not sell, rent, or trade anyone’s information, ever.
When you simply visit the site
Our web host keeps standard server logs, which record the IP address of each request, the page requested, the time, and the browser identifying itself. These logs exist so the site can be kept secure and working, and they are not used to build any profile of you. Our security software (Wordfence and Loginizer) reads the same information to block attacks and repeated failed login attempts.
The site does not use Google Analytics or any comparable service, so ordinary browsing here is not measured or reported to anyone.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. This site uses very few:
- A consent cookie. When you answer the cookie banner, we store your answer so you are not asked again on every page.
- Login cookies. These apply only to volunteers who sign in to manage the site, not to visitors.
- Cookies set by Zeffy. If you open a donation, membership, store, or signup form, Zeffy may set cookies needed to run that form. Those are described in Zeffy’s own privacy policy.
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. The site will still work, though the cookie banner will reappear.
Donations, memberships, and store orders
Every payment on this site is handled by Zeffy, a payment platform for nonprofits. When you donate, join, buy something, or sponsor an event, the form you fill in belongs to Zeffy, and the information you type goes to Zeffy rather than to this website.
We never see or store your card number. What Delavan History receives from Zeffy is the information needed to recognize and thank you and to keep proper records: typically your name, email address, mailing address, what you gave or bought, and the amount and date.
We use that information to send your receipt, fulfill orders, manage memberships, acknowledge gifts, and meet our recordkeeping and reporting obligations as a nonprofit.
The newsletter
Newsletter signups also run through a Zeffy form. If you subscribe, we keep your name and email address so we can send you the newsletter and occasional news about Delavan History. Every email includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can also ask us to remove you by writing to the address at the bottom of this page.
Contacting us
If you email, call, or write to us, we keep your message and contact details for as long as we need them to answer you and to keep a sensible record of the conversation. Volunteers who handle collections, research requests, and donations of artifacts may keep correspondence longer, because it forms part of the record of how an item came to us.
Content from other websites
Some pages include material served by other sites, such as Zeffy forms and our events calendar feed. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that other site directly: the other site can see that your browser requested something, and its own privacy policy applies to that request.
Who we share information with
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We share it only with the service providers that make the website and our operations work, such as our web host, our payment platform, and our email delivery service, and only to the extent they need it to do that job. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep things
Donation and membership records are kept as long as our nonprofit recordkeeping obligations require, generally at least seven years. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Server and security logs are kept for a short period and then overwritten.
Your choices
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to the address below and tell us what you would like. We may need to keep certain financial records even after a deletion request, because a nonprofit is required to retain them.
If your information reached us through a Zeffy form, you may also need to contact Zeffy directly about the copy held on their system.
Children
This site is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us and we will remove it.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, is protected by firewall and login security software, and is backed up regularly. No website can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable care of what we hold.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Substantial changes will be mentioned in the newsletter.
