Muster Tree Project

Delavan’s beloved Muster Tree has been given a second life, carved into a work of public art by Wisconsin carver Justin Howland of GrizzWorks, and finished in time to greet the city’s ten-day celebration of America’s 250th.

More details coming soon.

The carving

Delavan History’s summer opened with the carving. Justin Howland, a Wisconsin carver working as GrizzWorks, shaped the tree into what visitors have called an amazing work of art, completed and on display just as Delavan launched its citywide 250th Anniversary celebration, June 26 through July 5, 2026.

Help us tell its story

A tree that has stood long enough to earn a name has collected a great many memories. If you have photographs of the Muster Tree from earlier years, a record of when it was planted, or a story about what happened beneath it, Delavan History would be glad to hear from you, and to add it to what we can pass on.

Photographs of the carving in progress and of the finished work are being gathered for this page.
